Modesty 101

What is up with all the talk about modesty? Does God really care what we wear? The next several posts will be taken from my study on modesty and will be an attempt to explain the importance of modesty.
Most of you would probably agree that you like clothes, right? I know I do, and I enjoy putting together different outfits, finding things on sale, like a cute new pair of shoes, and even sewing a few of my own designs sometimes. But is modesty, like beauty, only skin deep? I don't believe so. I am of the opinion that God cares more than just the appearance of modesty. Like the Bible says in 1 Samuel 16:7 "for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
One of the key passages about modesty is 1 Timothy 2:9-10 which says, "9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." Well, there are a couple of million dollar words: shamefacedness and sobriety. What do they mean? Just keep reading! :)
